PUBLIC EDUCATION
Nationally, eligible children aged 3 through 21 years may access special education services through the local school districts. The state department of education is responsibile for ensuring the local school districts comply with the requirement of the Individual's with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA), 2004.
The Oklahoma State Department of Education published the Special Education Parent Handbook that describes the IDEA and the policies and procedures for special education in Oklahoma. It is an excellent resource that parents and professionals are sure to find helpful. To learn more about special education visit http://se.sde.state.ok.us/ses/ or call (405) 522-3248.
