Family Supports

Family is the cornerstone for children and a stable, nurturing home environment is critical to assuring children with autism achieve their fullest potential. Research indicates that stress levels among parents of children with developmental disabilities are highest among parents of children with autism. This increased stress often contributes to strain within families and in approximately 80% of cases results in divorce.

We believe supporting families is vital to assuring that individuals with autism achieve success. In this section of the website you will find information and tools that will be helpful to your family in managing life with autism, including tips on how to stay connected to family, friends, and your community.

We are also involved in other activities focused on supporting families.  Some of these activities include:

  • Trainings for parents and caregivers of individuals with autism.  Many of our trainings involve parents in both the development of the training and in teaching the training.
  • Collaboration with the Oklahoma Family Center for Autism and other parent-led organizations committed to supporting familiies in communities around Oklahoma.
  • Trainings for community organizations that increase awareness about autism and create opportunities for families to be involved in everyday activities.
