Grants Available for Families Struggling with Child Health-Related Costs

The UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation has announced that new grants are available to help children who need critical health care treatment, services, or equipment not covered or not fully covered by their parents' health benefit plans.

UHCCF provides grants to families to help pay for child health care services such as speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy sessions, prescriptions, and medical equipment such as wheelchairs, orthotics, and eyeglasses.

Parents and legal guardians may apply for grants of up to $5,000 each for child medical services and equipment by completing an online application at the UHCCF Web site.

To be eligible for grants, children must be 16 years of age or younger. Families must meet economic guidelines, reside in the United States, and be covered by a commercial health benefit plan.

Eddie Guardado Foundation

The Eddie Guardado Foundation was established by Major League All-Star Pitcher, Eddie Guardado and his wife Lisa in 2008. The Eddie Guardado Foundation is a public 501(c3) non-profit foundation with all donations fully tax deductible.

"Because of Eddie's career we've been blessed with the resources to get our daughter Ava the therapy and treatment she really needs. We also know that's just not the case for the vast majority of families out there affected by Autism. So we started this foundation with the idea that we could help the people that needed it the most. We are so grateful to those who share our concern and have expressed their desire to make a small difference in peoples' lives."
- Lisa Guardado, Co-founder

The Eddie Guardado Foundation through Ava's Friends, funds individual families affected by Autism by reducing their out of pocket expenses for therapy and treatment. We also join with other similar groups in lobbying Washington as well as State governments on behalf of these families in the hopes that more can be done through MediCare and private insurance to see that every child with Autism can get equal access to proven treatments.
