A new study out of Cambridge University indicates that genes that contribute to genius in some individuals can result in autism in other individuals. While this study only included a small number of individuals with autism, the findings are similar to that of other studies that indicates that high intelligence, particularly in science and math often runs in families who are more likely to have a child with autism. The article also discusses other studies that indicate that possibly up to a third of individuals with autism have savant abilities. Read more....

Archives of General Psychiatry examines the
trends in autism prevalence in California, where thimerosal has been
removed from childhood vaccines. Results showed that the estimated
prevalence of autism for children at each year of age from 3 to 12
years increased throughout the study period. The data do not show any
recent decrease in autism in California despite the removal of
thimerosal and do not support the hypothesis that exposure to
thimerosal during childhood is a primary cause of autism.
