History

The Edmond Family Center for Autism began in May 2002, when two parents, Melinda Lauffenburger and Angel Hamilton, came together over coffee to discuss the similarities with their children. PAC, or Parents of Autistic Children, was formed and began meeting monthly at the Edmond Public Library to support parents in our area. In 2006, we formed a leadership team, changed our name to Edmond Family Center for Autism, graciously accepted Teresa Parr's help as Treasurer, and began to think a bigger vision for helping families. Today, there our e-mail distribution list provides information to over 350 families. Our programs have expanded to focus on education, family events, and community education.

As we began to think bigger, we realized that our website could be a tremendous resource for all families in Oklahoma. EFCA provided the funds to organize a website project team that could provide higher quality of information for all families throughout our state. We later applied for our non-profit status as OFCA and committed to continue to share our resources so that more groups could benefit from what we learned in developing EFCA. Today, EFCA is a partner with the Oklahoma Autism Network, a branch of OFCA, and a collaborator with parent groups who are committed to improving the lives of families affected by Autism in Edmond and beyond.
